4. AI and Data Usage

Booktus uses artificial intelligence to generate discussion questions and model answers for books. Here's how we handle data in relation to our AI systems:

4.1 AI-Generated Content

Our AI analyzes book content to generate educational discussion questions at various comprehension levels (literal, inference, and thematic). The AI also generates model answers to help teachers assess student responses.

4.2 Data for AI Improvement (Teachers Only)

With your explicit consent during registration, we may use anonymized interaction data from teachers to improve our AI models. This includes:

  • Question selections and preferences
  • Custom questions created by teachers
  • Feedback on AI-generated content
  • Usage patterns and feature preferences

Important: All data used for AI improvement is anonymized and aggregated. We do not use personally identifiable information or student data for AI training purposes.

4.3 Student Data Protection

Student responses and data are never used for AI training or improvement. Student data is only used to provide the educational service (displaying responses to teachers, storing submission history).

5. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following circumstances:

  • With Your Consent: When teachers share question sets via email, recipient email addresses are used solely for delivery.
  • Service Providers: We use third-party services for hosting (AWS, Vercel), authentication (Supabase), and email delivery (AWS SES). These providers process data on our behalf under strict confidentiality agreements.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and safety.

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information:

  • Encryption of data in transit (HTTPS/TLS)
  • Secure authentication with encrypted passwords
  • Regular security assessments and updates
  • Access controls limiting data access to authorized personnel

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us.

Shared question sets are retained until explicitly deleted by the teacher who created them or until they expire (if an expiration was set).
